I highly recommend Small Poppies for families with gifted littlies. There are not enough superlatives to convey just how much of a positive, lasting impact our time at Small Poppies has had - not just for our two gifties, but for us as a family.
Like many starting this journey, I was sure that while my oldest wasn’t gifted, they did need something “extra” that they weren’t getting at their kindy / daycare. We met Sue for a Poppy Peek and life changed for the better.
We were incredibly lucky to have both Sue and Ashle as teachers during our time there. They both bring a lifetime of experience (both in being gifted and raising gifties) and their passion for teaching these kids shines through.
I saw for many years their empathy and relationship building with these kids and for me and many others, it is such a pure relief and joy to see them with someone who not only gets them (in all their quirky glory) but genuinely likes them too.
One of the biggest (and unexpected) benefits of Small Poppies was the learning and support I got. Being in an environment where my kids were understood and supported meant I got time each week where I could relax and enjoy the time with them, with us all in our happy place.
Each week I’d learn some new nugget of wisdom on how to manage raising these special kids - let’s face it, most parenting books didn’t apply, so information was scarce! And just seeing that while my kids aren’t “usual” they are “normal”. For gifties.
I feel very lucky to have started our gifted journey with Small Poppies. Without that support and knowledge we all gained, I’m sure that not only would have those early years been more difficult, we would be having a harder time now without having had that experience to fall back on.
If you’re wondering if it’s right for you, I say give it a go. I’m so glad I did.
